WHAT AGENCIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS LAW IN CANADA?

Human rights law fall under federal and territorial/provincial acts:

a)          Canadian Human Rights Act (see www.chrc-ccdp.ca) which includes matters related to employment or services to the public and covers federally regulated organizations such as the federal government, post office, airlines, TV and radio stations, banks, phone or internet services, inter-provincial trucking and busing companies, and federally regulated mining companies

b)          Provincial or Territorial Human Rights Act – each province or territory has a human rights act which protects you in the areas of employment, housing, services, goods and facilities offered to the public, and in some provinces, publications, advertising, membership in unions and professional associations and public contracts.  Check the website below for further details.
