Terry Watada
Born in Toronto in 1951, Terry Watada is a poet, fiction writer, playwright, musician and composer. After completing his Masters in English, he began work on the first of eight albums. His music was very much a part of the movement for Japanese Canadian redress. He is best known for his monthly column in The Nikkei Voice, a national Japanese Canadian newspaper. He has produced five plays and is the author of three play. Dear Wes/Love Muriel, based on the writings of Muriel Kitagawa is one of the plays. Terry is a talented versatile writer as he has published books of poetry, a history on the Buddhist Churches and now engaged in writing a children’s book. He is dedicated to the preservation of human rights and the elimination of racism. In 1991, he was recognized for his activism by the City of Toronto when he received the William P. Hubbard Award for race relations.
