Raymond Moriyama

Born in Vancouver, Raymond Moriyama, a nisei. was interned as a young boy in Slocan Valley in British Columbia and moved to Hamilton where he completed his high school education. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto and his Masters from McGill University in 1957.

Raymond is one of Canada’s most respected architects. Among his award-winning projects are the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, Ontario Science Centre, Canadian Embassy in Tokyo and more recently, the new Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. .Since founding Moriyama & Teshima Architects in 1958, Raymond has received many personal honours including the Order of Canada, Order of Ontario and the Order of Rising Sun Gold Rays from Japan. He was on Maclean’s Honour Roll as a Canadian Who Made the Difference. In 2001, Raymond was elected as Chancellor of Brock University, the first architect in Canada to receive such an honour.
