Jon Kimura Parker
Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Jon Kimura Parker, known to most as “Jackie”, was born, raised and educated in Vancouver. He received training with his uncle, Edward Parker, and daily coaching from his mother Keiko Parker. In 1979, he was admitted to the Julliard School on a full scholarship. He plays as many as 100 concerts annually and has performed as a guest soloist with all the major orchestras throughout the world. Mr. Parker has hosted television and radio programs on classical music for the CBC and other networks. On New Year’s Eve, 1995, he traveled to Bosnia and performed in Sarajevo in a concert covered by CNN and broadcast live to 59 countries.
A true Canadian ambassador of music, he has given command performances for the Queen, special performance for the United Supreme Court, and has performed for the Prime Ministers of Canada and Japan. In 1996, Jon Kimura Parker received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award and was invested with the Order of Canada, his country’s highest honour in 1999
