Time: First two weeks of August

website: www.folklorama.ca

In 1970 during the Manitoba Centennial year, the Folk Arts Council of Winnipeg organized a festival called Folklorama to celebrate Manitoba’s multicultural heritage. The festival proved to be so successful that it has been held annually for the past 35 years. A celebration of cultural diversity, each pavilion represents an ethnic community and promotes cultural awareness through cultural displays, food, drink and entertainment. The Manitoba Japanese Canadian Citizens Association hosts the Japan pavilion for a one-week period.

Folklorama has become the premier multicultural event in North America as bus tours from the United States and visitors from around the world converge on Winnipeg each August. In 2004 there were 45 pavilions hosting over 447,000 pavilion visitors.
