Dr, Audrey Kobayashi is the Director of the Institute of Women's
Studies and professor at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario. She was born in Kelowna, BC to
a nisei father and a mother of English ancestry. Audrey attended the University of Kyoto in
Japan on a two-year Monbusho scholarship and acquired a knowledge of the Japanese language.
In 1980, while in Japan she married Mark Rosenberg. She teaches courses in racism and gender
and id well-known for her publications on human rights, immigration, gender, racism and
history of Japanese Canadians. She has developed a computerized data base containing
information on the early Japanese immigrants and compiled a report on A Demographic
Profile of Japanese Canadians. Audrey was a member of the team that negotiated
Japanese Canadian redress and was director on the Executive of the National Association of
Japanese Canadians.
