“The Japanese Canadians 1877-1977”
The Japanese Canadian Centennial Project (JCCP) was established in Vancouver by a group of sansei, younger nisei and new immigrants or ijusha, who mounted the history of Japanese Canadians, A Dream of Riches: Japanese Canadians 1877-1977, as a national project for the Japanese Canadian Centennial. The idea for the project was conceived by some ijusha, led by Michiko Sakata. The exhibit opened in Ottawa in 1977 and eventually toured throughout Canada and Japan. The book Dream of Riches produced by the JCCP in 1978 as a permanent record of the photo exhibit helped stimulate renewed interest in Japanese Canadian history and identity.
