About NAJC - Symposia for Japanese Canadians in the Arts Ai – Toronto 1994 and Tsudoi/Gatherings - Vancouver 1995
The two regional symposia held in Toronto and Vancouver brought together Japanese Canadian visual artists, filmmakers, photographers, performers and cultural theorists. The Vancouver gathering was dedicated to the memory of Roy Kiyooka (1926-1994), one of the earliest renowned nisei writers and artists from the Japanese Canadian community.
“…this event made me realize the importance of such gatherings, for our community is still very much involved in the process of determining its cultural identity and its vision for the future.” ~ Tamio Wakayama, Vancouver
